The onetime warrior princess is preparing for a new quest.
Lucy Lawless is joining Starz’s TV adaptation of the popular “Evil Dead” franchise, “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” The casting reunites the New Zealand actress with longtime colleagues Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who, in addition to serving as executive producers on the new series, produced her previous projects “Xena: Warrior Princess” and Starz’s “Spartacus” series.
Lawless will play the role of Ruby in “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” described as a “mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks.” Ruby also sounds like she’ll be a foil to Bruce Campbell‘s Ash Williams, because even though the “Evil Dead” chainsaw-handed antihero has spent more than 30 years fighting off demons, she believes the now-aging lothario is the cause of the Evil Dead’s return.
“Ash vs. Evil Dead” is set to film on location in New Zealand this spring, and it will premiere on Starz in late 2015. Raimi, who helmed all three of the “Evil Dead” films, will direct the first episode of the new series.
